About Hell's Kitchen

About the show

Now nominated for 13 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hell’s Kitchen is a brand new, original musical written by 16-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz.

Set in the 1990s in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, Hell’s Kitchen is loosely based on Alicia Keys’ own teenage years. In the musical, 17-year-old Ali is searching for her place in the world, beyond the expectations of her overprotective single mother. She is lost until she meets Miss Liza Jane, a woman in her building who becomes a mentor and teaches Ali the power of music.

Directed by Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, Dear Evan Hansen) and Choreographed by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown (Once on This Island, for colored girls…Hell’s Kitchen stars Shoshana Bean, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis, and in her Broadway debut, Maleah Joi Moon as Ali. All were Tony Award nominated for their performances in Hell’s Kitchen, with Kecia Lewis and Maleah Joi Moon winning the awards for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical respectively.

Hell’s Kitchen features new songs by Alicia Keys, along with hits including “Girl on Fire,” “Fallin’,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” “No One,” and “Empire State of Mind,” with orchestrations by Adam Blackstone and Tony Award winner Tom Kitt.
