Best Restaurants Near Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The Al Hirschfeld Theatre is located at 302 W. 45th Street and is currently home to Moulin Rouge! The Musical!, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical at the 74th Tony Awards. The theater first opened in New York City in 1924 as the Martin Beck Theatre, named for vaudevillian promotor Martin Beck, with the show Madame Pompadour.  The theater was renamed in 2003 after Broadway caricaturist Al Hirschfeld who was famous for his black and white portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars. His work often appeared in publications like The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and more. The theater is close to classic New York City attractions like Central Park, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, and Bryant Park. It’s also convenient to Restaurant Row, with an abundance of restaurants (including Joe Allen on 46th Street). Nearby theaters include Palace Theatre, Majestic Theatre, Richard Rodgers Theatre, St. James Theatre, Booth Theatre, and New Amsterdam Theatre.

Glass House Tavern is located at 252 W. 47th Street in the heart of Times Square. Open until 11pm Sundays, 12am Tuesday and Wednesday, and 1am Thursday - Saturday. Closed Mondays. They offer a warm space with both pre- and post-show dining options.

Sugar Factory is located at 694 8th Avenue, one block away from John Golden Theatre. Open until 12am Sunday – Friday and until 1am Saturday. This family-friendly destination is known for its colorful décor and delicious sweets and treats.

5 Napkin Burger is located at 630 9th Avenue at the corner of west 45th street, on the same block as the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Open 10am – 10:30pm Sunday - Tuesday and 10am – 11:30pm Wednesday - Saturday. This is the place to be for juicy burgers and craft beer.

Bocca di Bacco is located at 635 9th Avenue, convenient to the Paramount Times Square Hotel. Open from 12pm – 10pm Sunday – Thursday and from 12pm – 11pm Friday – Saturday. The menu features farm to table Italian cuisine and a stellar wine list.

Daniela Trattoria is located at 728 8th Avenue, an eight-minute walk from Neil Simon Theatre. Open from 11:30am – 8:30pm Monday – Friday, 8am – 9pm Saturday, and 8am – 8pm Sunday. In addition to traditional Italian dinner fare, they also serve breakfast and brunch.

Marseille is located at 630 9th Avenue in the heart of the theatre district in New York. Open until 10pm Sunday to Tuesday, 11pm Wednesday to Saturday. The leisurely charm and ambience of Paris is paired with great service and delicious French cuisine.

Chez Josephine is located at 414 W. 42nd Street, perfect for those heading to a Broadway musical. Open daily from 11am – 12am. Obao is located at 647 9th Avenue, one of many Asian restaurants near the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Open 11:30am – 11:00pm Sunday – Thursday and 11:30am to 12am Friday – Saturday. The menu focuses on Vietnamese and Thai comfort foods with a twist.

DD Soup Dumpling is located at 690 9th Avenue, central to Ninth Avenue’s many restaurants. Open from 12pm – 11pm daily. They’re known for their delicious soup dumplings and lively atmosphere.

Ari Sushi is located at 402 W. 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Open until 10pm Sunday – Thursday and until 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday. They don’t take reservations, but their service is quick and the sushi is always fresh.

Le Sia is an Asian Fusion restaurant located at 651 9th Avenue. Open until 11:30pm on Monday – Saturday and until 10pm on Sunday. The chef combines classic Louisiana Cajun flavors with traditional Wok techniques.

“Had brunch before the theatre today at Lilly's. Very cool ambiance from early 1900's. Good variety on the menu but Lilly's adds its own twist. Their fried potatoes were crispy and super good. We would definitely go back.” –Leah S.
